Your keywords reveal the readiness to purchase of your prospect, are you following their conversation?
One of the most important things you should consider while working with your keywords is the type of mindset you prospects are in. The first thing you should understand is the reasons why your prospects go online and what they are looking for.
What is the reason why potential network marketers go online?
1. To learn about ways of making money online
2. To learn about the mlm/network marketing industry in particular
3. To learn how to make money with their current mlm opportunity
4. To join a company, they are educated about the industry, they just want to pick the best option
Different keywords target different types of prospects with different needs of information.
Your job is to answer their questions, help them solve a painful problem or any valuable piece of information that can benefit and make their life or business easier.
Let’s analyze the frame of mind of each group:
1. Your prospect is actively looking for away to make money online, a solution to a money/time problem, they are on a research stage.
The prospect has not decided to make money through a mlm/network marketing business, he is checking different ways to make money online (this is where you will find a lot of the noise on the internet all the hype, the spam, and the ridiculous money making offers)
The type of information these prospects are looking for is related to different ways to make money online, affiliate marketing, mlm, direct sales, etc. No everybody in this group is ready for a home based business, they might want a work from home job instead of a business.
The competition is huge and the prospects are a lot less targeted.
Keywords examples: make money online, work from home, work from home opportunities, work from home jobs, etc.
2. The second group has already done some research and has decided to look closer the mlm/network marketing industry.
The type of information you can offer to this group is the benefits of working in our industry, maybe a bit of the different compensation plans, the different business models within the industry, what to look for when joining a network marketing opportunity, etc. In this face you need to educate your prospect about the basics of mlm.
The competition is a bit less than in the first group but it is still big and the target is still too broad.
Keywords examples: mlm, network marketing, mlm business opportunity, how to make money in the mlm industry, etc.
3. People that are part of an mlm already
These prospects are already involved in the industry, they have been sold in the concept of making money through an mlm/network marketing opportunity, they have spend money on this, what they need is solutions to their problem, how to generate leads, cash, and sign ups.
They are looking for 2 things.
A simple straightforward strategy to generate leads and sales
And a mentor that teach them that system or strategy.
Type of information needed is: trainings, how to info, solutions, tools, etc.
This group is a lot more targeted than the first two, this is where you can shine teaching them how to information at the time that you build your credibility. The competition is a lot less than in the first option but it is still too broad.
This is where the specialization comes into play. Position yourself as a true expert in one specific area just target that. Be recognized as the ppc guy or the social media girl for example.
Keyword examples: How to drive traffic with article marketing, how to use facebook in network marketing, video marketing strategies for your mlm, etc.
4. People that are checking your company by name
This group might know or might not know how to build an online business, but they have heard of your company and they have a keen interest on it, now is the matter to pick a team, the best sponsor.
The best and hottest prospect is the one that is looking for your specific business opportunity, they are ready to buy, they know what they want and they have done their due diligence.
The prospect is looking for 2 kinds of information
- That reinforces their decision for your company
- The best team or mentor to join
Keyword examples: companies’ names, your company and your competitors, leaders of the industry, etc. These are the money making keywords.
Bottom line:
This last group: “people looking for your opportunity by name”; is by far the most targeted of the 3, the competition is a lot less but so is it the amount of prospects.
I know I have said in a previous post that promoting your network marketing opportunity is the fastest way to go broke and this is true but in this particular case, people is researching for your company, and that’s exactly the type of information they want to see. Remember, the key is to follow the conversation of your prospect.
However, to target the third group: “people that are part of an mlm already”, could be really good since it helps you to build up your brand name. This is even more effective if you position yourself as a true expert in one specific area like youtube, twitter, article marketing, etc.
Now, It is important to follow the conversation, and put the type of information the prospect is expecting to find depending on the keywords. If you are targeting for example ‘how to make money for your mlm with facebook” and all you do is to pitch your opportunity, you won’t have positive results, what your prospects want is a facebook training or how to information.

I’d like to add another keyword phrase to your third group. “Is Your MLM Upline Causing You More Harm Than Good?” I wrote an article using this phrase and it is very targeted. As a matter of fact it shot up the SERP and ended up being the first time I had to deal with a content thief.
The article was in an ezine directory and another network marketing coach altered the article and removed the resource box claiming full credit for the article. The issue was solved but the point is longtail phrases are more targeted. Conversion rates are also much higher.
